At Oakland Park Animal Hospital, we understand that pet emergencies are stressful, and we’re here to provide immediate, compassionate care when your beloved companion needs it most. During our regular business hours, our team is ready to address acute illnesses, injuries, and critical situations such as toxin ingestion, respiratory distress, collapse, or seizures.

If you suspect your pet is experiencing an emergency, we urge you to call us right away at (954) 731-4228. Calling ahead allows our team to prepare for your pet’s arrival and ensures they receive the quickest possible attention. Common emergencies we address include exposures to toxic substances, signs of heatstroke, fractures, severe bleeding, choking, eye injuries, and difficulty with bodily functions.

Our hospital is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Saturday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. We are closed on Sundays.

It’s often tough to tell if your pet’s situation is truly an emergency. If you’re worried, so are we! Generally, emergencies include, but aren’t limited to:

Consuming toxic or poisonous substances, such as human foods like xylitol, chocolate, or garlic, or household products like cleaning agents or automotive fluids.

Heat-related issues like fainting, seizures, and other symptoms of heat stroke.

Fractures, lameness, severe cuts, or other signs of major injury.

Bleeding from any body opening.

Choking, gagging, or other breathing emergencies.

Eye injuries.

Refusal to eat or drink.

Extended gaps between puppy or kitten births (i.e., difficult labor).

Sudden disorientation, dizziness, or passing out.

Trouble urinating or defecating.
